harddrive configuration
hello. going to start my second build soon.having a hard time understanding something thats really simple,so please bear with me. going to install (4) harddrives with (2) operating systems. windows xp on one ,with (3) hardrives and linux on the last harddrive. how should i configure my cables and jumpers?going with msi k8n neo4 platinum ,seagate harddrives.

What kind of hard drives? IDE or SATA?

Four IDE hard drives? Are you going to use a PCI IDE controller card? Most motherboards only have 2 IDE controllers (some RAID motherboards have 4) so if you install all 4 hard drives on the motherboard controllers you won't have anywhere to connect the optical drives.
If you're using 80 wire IDE cables, set the drive jumpers to CS (cable select) and just connect them to the proper connectors (black is master, grey is slave). If you're using 40 wire IDE cables, set the drive jumpers to master or slave. Position on the cable doesn't matter. If you're going to use a PCI IDE controller card then all the hard drives connect to the controller and the optical drives connect to the on-board IDE controllers. Cricket

yes i will have a pci ide controller card.was going to connect 2 drives to the controller card.are the jumpers still set to cable select? and yes i am going with 80 pin.
