You don't want the upgrade version of XP. You'd have to have a previous version on the hard drive to install it... Besides, you can get the OEM version for a few bucks less (the OEM version will lack fancy packing and phone support)

Don't get a mircro ATX case and board - they are really cramped and probably don't have good airflow. And the board won't have many extra slots for expansion. Also, I wouldn't use anything but nForce chipsets for AMD. I'd say the ASUS A8N-E would be a good choice (and you save a few bucks if you bundle it with the ASUS power supply).

You might look at hard drives with a 16MB cache - those are pretty fast.

I'm not sure about Memorex drives, I'd go with a LITE-ON or NEC.

Also, I'm not really sure about ASUS power supplies, but if they are anything their motherboards, it ought to be good.

Your XMS RAM is overkill unless you want to do serious overclocking. You can get some Value Select for less.

I agree with buying a full version of XP but a previous version of Windows is not required to be installed on the drive if you use the Upgrade XP version. You are only required to have another version of Windows and XP will require you to insert the other Windows CD before it will complete the XP installation.

For gaming, I think we are at the tipping point for dual-core. Several current games have had recent patches to support dual-core, and many of the big games that are going to come out are going to support it. For the same price as that 4000+ single-core, you can get the 3800+ dual-core.

This is a good Antec PSU that a lot of people are using, it is SLI certified and a lot less cost than the ASUS you listed.
Take a look at the 16Mb cache SATA hard drives from Seagate or Western Digital, they are faster and not much more costly than the 8Mb ones.
I would go with a Liteon optical drive instead of the Memorex.
This is the version of windows to get.
The motherboard will have pretty good integrated 8 channel sound that you might want to try before you add a card.
You don't need the XMS RAM unless you are going to be overclocking it, regular value select will be fine.
Also, you might need a floppy drive at some point in the setup.

I've never heard that but I guess it's possible. Might as well get the lite-on then. Many reviewers on newegg have no clue what they are talking about, wait neither do I. j/k get a lite-on everyone on this board that has one seems to like it, including myself!

I hear Pioneer disk drives are top quality, but you also have to pay the price difference.
