System shutdown...or not exactly
I have just build my new comp and it just shut down on me. Well ok not exactly shuts down. I was on the internet on the microsoft site and i wanted to look at a video clip for somthing. Then i click on the 500k download speed for my internet and thats when my computer went crazy. The screen was flickering and then it shut off and my mouse, keyboard and everything that was hooked in the back of the computer didnt work. The funny part is that my computer didn't even shut off. If was still on. Can i know what the problem was please.
Thanks

Ok now this is getting me mad. Everytime i try to open a video from my computer or from a website, my computer just shuts down. Then when i open it i get scramble and all colored picture on my screen. I have to wait about 2 min before opening it. Can this be my video card driver. If it is that how can it be. Arn't the drivers that come with the video card supposed to be tested before they put them out?

This is only happening with video clips? And you're trying to view them with Windows Media Player? Have you tried a different media viewer?
Which video driver version are you using? All other device drivers up to date? MS Critical updates installed? What kind of background programs are you running? Have you tried to view the video file while in Safe Mode? Cricket

CAN you shut it down and restart is what I meant?
This sounds like something is overheating. Very possibly the video card. |

Yea this is only happeneing with video clips. Im trying to vew them with windows media player. My drivers for my video card are the ones that came with my cd im not sure what version they are. I got an asus 7800gtx 512mb.
I'll try to view them with a different programe right now. If that doesn't work i'll try safe mode. In the other hand i still dont know what the problem is... |

The video card could very well be defective - it happens.
You aren't overclocking anything, are you? |

No im not overclocking.
Are you sure its defective. I can play any game on high settings nothing happens. The color and picture are amazing. My computer just goes crazy when i click on a video link from the web or try to open a video file in windows. It doesnt happen with all video files though. Thats where i think its not defective. Back to ground 1...

At first my computer used to close but never shut down. Now it just restarts itself when i click on a video or watch a dvd video. I checked and my card is not overheating.
Anyone else no the answer. Thanks |

Do you have another video card you can throw in there to test with? Cricket

Ok i figured out that these problems only occur with windows media player. Nothing happend to real player and quicktime. When i changed the format to windows media player and tried to play the file on it my computer restarted.
I got the newest media player version that came with windows xp. Can this be a driver that goes with it? |

I also get the blue screen when my computer restarts for like a sec. I read something about drivers but i wasn't sure. This restarting thing happens when playing certain types of video files like wmv, video clip, etc on windows media player.

Go into control panel, system, advanced, startup and recovery. Uncheck the box for restart on error. Next time the bluescreen will stay up so you can read it.
