The build looks pretty good to me. I've never heard of that manufacturer for vid cards though... The only thing I might suggest is bumping the hard drive up a bit. The 250 gig Seagate Barracuda SATA HDD is $20 more than the 160drive you were looking at.

Looks like a nice build there. Just a couple of points:
Thermaltake aren't the best PSU manufactuer around. I'd recommend an Antec, Enermax or Tagen for your build...500w is about right. Only go for the expensive XMS RAM if you're going to be overclocking. If not, the Corsair Value Select is fine and cheaper. Any reason you've picked one beige and one black optical drive? Freakitchen

Thanks for the HD advice. Do you think the 3700+ CPU has enough power or should i upgrade to a 3800+?

Ya I think I'm going to get the Value Select RAM. Also no I really don't care about the optical drive colors that much but I'll probably go abck and get the same color.

The 3700+ should have plenty power. You won't see a noticable difference between it and the 3800+. The processor you chose is probably in the 'sweet spot' now in terms of performance vs. price.

You're welcome on the HD advice. As for the upgrade from the 3700 to the 3800, I don't know. If you can work it into your budget then I probably would. Did you have an OS included in there? To get the true 64 bit capability of those processors you should have a 64 bit operating system.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16837102034 Another thing to think about is driver support for XP pro 64 bit edition...From what I've heard, you may have problems finding drivers. Just something to think about. Scomac |

OEM, Retail is really stupid. You just get a BOX and a manual. Great, you pay about 100 dollars more, not worth it.
Go with OEM, same thing, you install XP... and if you have problems.. you may reinstall it again, I heard about OEM not being able to install twice, but thats not true. If OEM gives you a problem reinstalling, just give microsoft a call about reactivation, (I ran into this problem, but I solved it by calling in".) |

That particular Thermaltake power supply is fine. Good choice for that system. I believe the 3800+ is a Venice core - the San Diego core on the 3700+ is a better core.

I would go with Win XP OEM - it costs over half as much less than Retail. You won't get fancy packaging or support from MS (which is why we are here
). I haven't heard good things about HIS products. Just a tip: Don't plug that media card reader in during the XP installation. Keep in unplugged until you get things going, then hook it up. It can really goof things up in setup.

Unless you need some feature of Pro (mainly advanced networking stuff, which I doubt you'll need for a home setting) I'd go for Home.
Yeah, that's a better power supply choice. |

That Antec is a real popular PSU, one of the best manufacturers.
