Alternatives to NewEgg?
I have been buying from NewEgg for about 6 months now. While they have been generally terrific, the sales tax (I live in Jersey) and to a lesser extent, the shipping, sometimes makes NewEgg way more expensive than some other resellers. On the build I have going right now, the Jersey sales tax alone cost me over $80. I can think of a lot of better ways to spend that $80 than to flush it down the tax toilet.
I would appreciate some feedback on ZipZoomFly and other alternatives out there. Specifically, I would like to know about return policies. I have only returned one item (a video card) to NewEgg, and that was handled great by them. How are the return policies at some of the other guys? This is my biggest concern. Hey NewEgg if you read this - you really need to move out of California and New Jersey. Way too many of your customers live in those States and frankly you just aren't going to be able to compete price wise there. Over 15% of the US population lives in those two states. Having operations in Jersey is questionable, having operations in California is just plain bad business. Delaware would be perfect for you guys, no sales tax there and centrally located on the east coast. |

I agree with you. Sales tax is terrible with Newegg for us New Jersians but they usually have the best prices so it evens out. ZipZoomFly is terrific. My friends have said they deliver fast and usually are about NewEgg prices. I've never ordered from there but I might start to save the sales tax money for something else. I've heard bad things from TigerDirect from people on here, but some other says they're good. I've ordered some mods from FrozenCPU.com and have had fast delivery. Not main computer parts but cabling, lighting, fans and other odds and ends.

Sometimes Amazon has slightly better prices than Newegg on some items, and free shipping. I took advantage of a free Amazon Prime trial, so that means free 2-day shipping. Zipzoomfly is also pretty reputable but they don't have the same expanded selection as Newegg. Of the other places I can think of, you'd pay greater shipping costs; not $80, but their higher costs and higher shipping costs might break everything even.

So far I've had no problems with zipzoomfly, but I've never had to return anything from them. I love not paying sales tax(yes I live in Jersey too
) and the free 2nd day air is sweet. There is no, "oh yeah I forgot about shippinng and tax" part. The price you see is the price you pay. I recently ordered some fans from them and if anything they seem to run out of stock quicker than newegg, so I ordered from both sites.
