Its alive

I'm a rookie computer builder, so go easy on me!
Anyway heres the story, put all the bits for my new build into the case, plugged it all together then checked it over. All good well so i think. Power time plug it in, wow its alive sort of.....
when i plugged it in the fans all started little light on the board came on. i thought this a bit odd as i hadn't pressed the power button on the front. nothing else was happening nothing on screen. so thought best press the power on button ...still nothing the computer just does nothing
(no power the cd-rom though.)
any help would be grand, to make it do some thing, like what its meant to.
Its nothing to special

motherboard Asus K8v-mx

AMD sempron 3000+

80gig Deskstar hard drive

You have the parts assembled out of the case and still nothing?

What are the complete system specs for this computer? List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Do you have spare parts you can swap in to test with?

Do you have another computer you can swap your parts in to test with?

Do you have another compatible power supply you can swap in to test with? The Q-Tec power supply might be defective.

That board has a 24 pin main connector *and* a 4 pin auxiliary connector - is your power supply compliant?

Give it a shot with just the motherboard, CPU, heatsink, video card, RAM, PC case speaker, monitor and keyboard. Hopefully you'll get an image on the monitor.

If it starts right up, I'd think that the motherboard may have a stuck electronic relay - but it's best to test with a different power supply first.
