Need advice for new build...
Hi all,
I am new here as a poster, but have followed the board for a little while. I want to build a PC primarily for gaming, but also for other activities such as video editing (to include capturing from a VCR), transferring files from CD to my MP3 player, and so on. I am a professional trumpet player as well, so the ability to record myself playing would be nice also. I have some ideas about what I want to buy, and wanted to get suggestions on what I am missing, or on things I can change. I have roughly $2,500 to spend. This is what I have in mind so far: Mobo: ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 ATX AMD Motherboard CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Toledo 1GHz FSB 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor Video Card - eVGA 256-P2-N527-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 VIVO PCI Express x16 Video Card Memory - CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory HDD - Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 ST3500641AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive I already have an Audigy 2 sound card, and might upgrade to the X-Fi later, but that is no priority obviously. I also have the input devices, speakers, and monitor. I know I have no case or power supply listed...I would welcome suggestions. I would like to be able to upgrade later on, things like adding hard drives and what-not. I am also considering a RAID setup, and would love help with ordering with that in mind. Also, should I consider water cooling? Overclocking could potentially be an option, but I honestly haven't thought that far ahead as of yet. Thanks in advance for your help! Steve |
