First Build, One Slight Problem
Hello, first I would like to thank the writers of the guide on how to build a PC at this site. I followed it when building and everything went pretty smoothly. I just finished and I think it has booted up correctly except for one thing: The PSU fan doesn't turn on. All other fans run and all the lights blink correctly. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
Thanks a lot in advance. If you need me to post more technical details I will. Edit: I'll just post some now: I'm using the Antec Sonata II case with included PSU. ASUS A8N Premium Mobo When I turn it on a few seconds pass then it displays a graphic for the motherboard. Then goes to a black screen that tells me to press ctrl+del or f4 to configure RAID. Then after a few more seconds it correctly counts how big my HDD is and lists other things which I think are just motherboard features. I think that should be all that matters for this... Some power supplies - the Antec Smartpower range springs to mind - have a thermally controlled rear fan. If the PSU isn't warm enough, the rear fan won't spin, in order to keep the system quiet. What's the exact make and model of your PSU?

Wow, that's exactly what I have, the Antec Smart Power 2.0.
Thanks a lot, I just read my manual and it says this there too. Thanks so much, I was worried because the guide said the PSU fan should turn on. Someone might want to amend that, because I think my case and PSU is pretty common right? These are great forums, thanks again. |

No problem. I use that PSU for most of the builds I do; there's an intake fan on the rear of the PSU, drawing air in, so no need to worry. I believe Antec have recently changed the way the fan is controlled, since the case/PSU combo's I've bought recently have a note attached to the case, explaining that the fan won't necessarily turn on.
It probably needs ammending in the manual, since this only documents the PSU fan running slowly. Freakitchen |
