It's all falling apart...
When I first finished my build everything seemed fine except for the keyboard didn't work every time I booted. Then I installed a sound card. It didn't work yet the machine still recognized it and the diagnostic said it was fine. After a few more hours of trying to fix it the computer stopped booting up correctly most of the time. It would freeze at the XP loading screen more often than it would pass through it. Then the wireless internet adapter on it stopped working when I could actually get it booted. Now, after hooking it up with wires to the net, it won't load pages that I had visited before most of these problems started. What could be wrong? I have downloaded all the drivers for everything I could find. Could anything in BIOS be messed up?
I'm thinking maybe I should just start over... Please Help! |

Pull all of the cards out (with exception of video if you have one) and boot it without them. If it works fine, then try the cards individually to see which one is causing conflicts.
Check to make sure your BIOS are up to date as well. Even though the board is new, it could be quite a few months old and new updates could be availible. Also look for other driver updates for your motherboard/chipset. |

Please post the complete system specs for this computer including the power supply. List the parts by brand and model.

Sorry I didn't post this earlier:
ASUS A8N Premium SLI AMD X2 4200+ eVGA NVIDIA 7800GT Seagate SATA 7800RPM 160 GB << I think this is the problem. Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit Kingston 2x1GB RAM DDR400(value version) Antec 450W SmartPower 2.0 PSU (came with Sonata II case) Note that I installed the video card after the initial installation, and it had problems too, but I'm much more worried about it not booting XP at all. I tried to reinstall XP but it won't reinstall without certain drivers it says it needs and every time I put in the CD with the driver on it it freezes my mouse and keyboard so I can't tell it to continue. If I choose to do a new installation (which I would rather do than reinstall anyway) it has to reboot in the middle of it but then it starts from the beginning again instead of remebering that it was in the middle. Before I ran a the SeaTest diagnostic on my Hard Drive and it found a problem that was unfixable so I think I will just have to RMA the hard drive. However, will I be able to install my OEM copy of XP Pro on another comp because I already activated it on this one (because I thought it was working fine)? Also is there anyway I can clear the hard drive totally of everything from BIOS or some other way? Thanks |

You can install the XP on another computer but will have to activate it by telephone, explaining why you are reactivating it so soon.
If you can get it to boot with a floppy or a CD, you can zero fill the hard drive with Darik's Boot & Nuke. dban.sourceforge.net |

Ok thanks for the info, I was afraid I would have to buy another copy.
And I'll try that nuke thing before RMAing it. Thanks |
