Would like to see if existing power supply, hard drives ect still
compatible with the newer stuff. Have a older computer that is still good that I bought years ago and still use but would like to go faster. I think the power supply is 12,5,3.3 volt The computer was a pvc220 sony. Has 2 hard drives,2 cdroms with one being writable. floppy of course keyboard and mouse with scanner and printer. worry about the power needs more than anything on whether there the same voltages now days on motherboards. What are they today on the new boards and processors? |

Is that a SONY VAIO? Do you plan to re-use the case? If the case is a small, compact one you might not be able to get a standard ATX power supply in there...not sure if a standard ATX motherboard will fit either.

Sony computers are the most proprietary on the planet. Upgrading them is a major headache. I'd recommend saving for a complete new build from the ground up.

Not nescessarilly, while the actual dimensions might be the same as standard, there is a good chance that the board and power supply use nonstandard pin assignments on the power connections.
