You can't go wrong with the ATI. The other makers of radeon video card are also good-ATI expects certain quailty for video card makers using their GPUs. The big thing to look at are the options for each card and maker and match to your needs.

Asus mother boards are a good choice for either AMD or Intel CPUs.

For motherboard a good choise will be asus like flanzig1 said. Since there is no price limit go for the asus a8n32 sli deluxe.

ive always liked cards from ati and sapphire, although ive have had many problems with powercolor. imo get sapphire or ati, whichever has the better extras. but that was in the days of 9800's. i have a 7800gtx and im lovin it. if it were me, i would reuse everything but get a new mobo and vid card, possibly a new psu (btw which psu does he have?). ill check on the mobo and get back to you. that reminds me, does your friend want to go crossfire (the ati version of sli).

ok if your friend wants to go ati cross fire, i found these boards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131584
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127230

and the vid card is here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121553

not sure how crossfire works exactly. there is supposed to be one master and one slave card. i believe this is the master card but again you or your friend needs to double check.

if your friend is willing to go for nvidia (which i prefer but it is his/her choice):
the sli mobo:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131568

and th nvidia sli ready vid card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143043

i know that for sli your friend just needs two cards (the one i linked to, he/she can just pick up two now or one now and the other later). as for the psu im not too sure about the alienware. it is a nice brand but im unsure of the connectors it has. to ensure compatibility i would get this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817194001

it is sli certified to you can be sure it will work with sli (not sure about crossfire).

well ive tried my best. if your friend wants to stick with crossfire, then you should wait for more replies. if your friend decides to go sli and nvidia, then the stuff i linked will work fine. good luck.

A 600 watter out of an Alienware should be good enough.

can u use that powersupply with crossfire?? or can u list powersupplys he can use with crossfire. he just ordered the card becuase its just came in stock. i think he is getting the asus mobo, be he isnt sure witch powerssupply to get. he is also concerned that 2 card will not fit in the asus mobo. will 2 asus x1900xtx fit in this mobo http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131584.

Here is a list of Crossfire Approved Power Supplies. I would go for the Enermax at the top. http://www.xoxide.com/aticrossfire.html
