Trouble with new build
I am having trouble with my new build. I had everything assembled inside the case, but would get nothing. I removed everything from the case and shorted the power switch with a screwdriver and the power supply fan and heatsink fan are spinning. Also, the green light on the motherboard is on. However, on the monitor I am gettting "no signal". I am using a video card that I pulled from my current desktop (ATI 9600) and that I know to be working. I am using an ASUS P4P800 SE with a Intel 3.0 (Northwood) that I purchased on Ebay. My question is this, could the processor be the problem? The reason I ask is that on Newegg, it does not say specifically that this mobo is compatible with a Northwood processor.
I need some guidance, advise, suggestions, etc. I'm not really sure how to proceed to isolate the problem. PLEASE HELP!!!! |

Just a simple question, is the ram correctly installed or locked down fully? This could cause that type of problem.

I was pretty certain that the RAM was installed correctly. Just to be sure I did remove 1 stick from my current desktop (Kingston Valuram) and used a different video card and I am still getting the "no signal" on the monitor screen.

I'm not sure what you mean about a yellow light from the monitor. The screen is black except for the no signal display.

That processor is compatible with that motherboard out of the box. If you are using a known good and tested power supply, you have a bad processor or a bad motherboard.

Post the specs of your build, to include the power supply, case, etc...

I assembled a system with this motherboard this weekend. It took me two days of assembly and disassembly to realize a few things.
Now, I have a question for you... do you have a keyboard and mouse connected to the motherboard? If it's a wireless setup, for some reason, a wireless mouse connected to the PS/2 port will prevent booting before Windows is installed. A regular wired mouse should work fine, but if you have a wireless desktop set, only connect the keyboard for the time being.
