Screen not turning on (New Build)
Hi guys,
I constructed a new pc a year ago. It was working fine until my bro messed it up somehow. There was nothing coming up on screen when we turned it on. The monitor would just not turn on with the pc. Somehow, we deduced that the motherboard could be faulty. I think it got burned out. Do you think the graphics card could have burnt out or would the motherboard be more suspectible to damage? I have rebuilt the same pc with the same parts. I just installed a new mobo. It turns on. The fans turn on. When I turn it on, the CPU LED at the front of the casing turns red for some reason. The monitor doesnt turn on with the power and it just stays like that.. all fans seeming to be running and all that. Can anyone suggest what the cause of the problem might be? Any information in this regard will be highly appreciated. Thanks. |

What was your brother doing to it when he “messed it up?” Was he moving the computer itself, or was he screwing with one of your programs?
List the specs of your build, so we know what you are dealing with. Include the new and old MOBO. Is the video card seated properly? Do you have another video card to try?

Thanks for the feedback guys.
Here is a list of specs: My Old motherboard was an Asus A8n-SLI deluxe. The new one is an MSI NEO4-Fl. The rest of the specs are as follows: AMD 3500+ Winchester s939 1024 Ram (2 x 512 Crucial Ballistix pc4000) xfx Geforce 6600GT DDR3 128 MB 160 GB Hitachi Deskstar SATA Thermaltake Tsunami Dream Casing I think the network card was lose and my brother tried to adjust it. It was a PCI network card. I think the computer was on at that time which is a horrible thing to do, I know. I'm guessing my graphics card went kaput. I mean why else wouldn't there be no image on the screen? If the motherboard was ok, and the hard drive was messed up or something.. there would still be something coming up on the screen.. no? The other thing which confuses me is the red cpu light and the power button playing no part in turning the pc on and off. You just press the psu button and it turns on automatically. Hope that helps. P.S There's no system speaker in the Tsunami Dream casing, so I don't know what error it's actually giving. |

The graphics card fits in perfectly by the way. It's a PCI-Ex graphics card. I have no other means of trying another one out. I have another old pc but it has a AGP card inside it.

Ok guys. I had a last look at it and figured out what the problem was. The cdrom jumper was not in properly and was creating problems. Didn't know it could do what it did though. Appreciate the feedback
