There are way too many different types of ram for pc, not sure what I need for my new pc. I am looking for at least a gig of memory. I have bought some parts already have a couple more things to get memory and power supply are left..have a monitor, keyboard and trackball..have 2 western digital hard drives a sony dvd rom and plextor dvd burner and a case already

have

msi K8N SLI-F ATX AMD Motherboard

PNY Geforce 6600GT

AMD Athlon 64 3200

looking at power supplies for the board for sli graphics cards for future upgrades.
Antec SmartPower 2.0 SP-500
XCLIO XClio 450BL
Sunbeam PSU-CGMI450

and for ram want at least name brand needing dual channel for the board I have want either corsair or kingston

any help or advise to sort out all the different options would be appreciated

Corsair value select is plenty good enough - just get a dual channel PC3200 pair. The Athlon 64 memory architecture really doesn't benefit much from super high speed low latency ram.

I'd look just a little higher for a power supply if you plan on using SLI. Get a certified unit. I believe the Antec TPII-550 is one of the few certified units under $100 that's from a quality manufacturer.

I also recommend corsair value select - although what about crucial?

I agree with Corsair value select ram, very cheap and good quality.

I'd also recommend the Antec TPII 550W.

Thanks for the info, but a bit of clarification on the corsair value ram. Newegg has 3 different models of corsair value ram and to me they are all the same.
The only difference betweent the 3 that I can see are the cas latency and the cost. All the other tech specs look the same.
