Hey, I never built a system before and have a $3000.00 budget. Need to buy everything. So was thinking something like this... Would love to get an FX-60 but the price is killing me, andyone know a way to revamp this list to include the FX-60 and make it OC'able?

Well, for starters, a single gtx will handle most games by itself, and by only getting one card now, you could open up enough money to get the FX-60. There are other ways you could slim down the price, but I dont think enough to allow you to get both the 2 cards and the FX-60.

I'd stay away from Ultra PSUs for SLI builds, or any build for that matter. Stick with higher quality units (Antec, Enermax, Silverstone ect...). Your Silverstone will do fine.

I agree with weremonkey, stick with one GTX card now and get the FX-60. You will never utilize two GTX's in SLI mode at this point in time. Wait a couple years when the price is cheaper and games are more demanding to get a second one.

Concur with weremonkey's suggestions about dropping to a single GTX. If you want the ultimate, you could even consider using one 7800GTX 512MB, if budget allows.

Don't change your power supply to the Ultra. We've been hearing bad things about their quality.

Other than that, there's some superb components there.

You could try replacing the 7800GTX's with the new ATI X1900XT 520 on newegg. Its cheaper, and offers better performance.

I heard from someone it beats the Nvidia 7800GTX

What you could do is send me half of your budget and we could both build gaming rigs that will handle most any game out to date. Then we could play against eachother online

haha I like that plan! Other then that sounds great!

Wow,
Thanks for all the replies. I was thinking that would be the best idea hold out on the SLI for a month or two and save a paycheck to buy the second one and get the FX-60 now.... Sounds like the plan to me. thnx for helping me finalize it...

(Send half my budget. ROFLMAO)

Go with one X1900XT or XTX for now. It will be half the cost and more than twice as powerful.

You could also go with a wireless keyboard mouse combo instead of spending money on a keyboard for gaming... I had a Logitech MX700 keyboard/mouse combo and that did will with all that I did ie playing games etc.... You could also slash the Plextor for something more affordable like a Lite-on.. The plextor you paying for the name more than anything... I doubt you will use a whole 400GB hard drive consider getting a single 250GB instead for starters...

I would stick with the two seperate HDD's as long as your main OS (and games) will be on the 10k rpm drive. That really increases loading and boot up speeds by a lot. Haveing two seperate drives like that is a realy good idea if you have the cash to spend.

If you plan on using the SLI then at least get a 6800 GS that way you can utilize the SLI later on and you will only have to but one video card instead of two. The x1900 is not capable of SLI so you would have to buy two whole new cards if you go that route. I don't think it would be worth it to buy that particular card, in my opinion opt for a 6800 at least, or spring for a 7800 and save up to get another 7800 later on. One 7800 will more then tide you over untill you can get two and two is just rediculous.

But thats just my humble opinion.

P.S. Gamer keyboards are NOT worth the money.
