I have been having this problem with my computer since I built it a month ago. My computer will randomly crash on me (see photo below)
http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...PaT/freeze.jpg It will stay in that screen for about 15 secs then the computer will just turn off. And I would have to restart it. I RMAed my video card and just installed my new one. Cleaned all my old video card drivers and reinstalled the latest ones. Installed a new power supply, because I was told my PSU was faulty. My card isnt over heating because the temp is never rising above 30c. Anyone have any ideas? The next thing I'm gunna swap out is my motherboard. Also I have tested all my RAM sticks and they are fine. **EDIT** For some reason my sig isnt showing. So here are my system specs. Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache ASUS A8N-E Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX 2GB Corsair DDR400 80g WD Caviar HD Radeon X800GTO 128MB Thermaltake CL-P0200 Silent 938 K8 NEC Display Solutions AS700-BK Black 17" CRT Monitor 0.27mm Dot Pitch D-Sub 450w Nspire Power Supply Last edited by Panama Red; 02-10-2006 at 01:43 PM. |

Have you checked the system temps in your bios? If they are within spec, I'd try a different vid card and/or update the drivers. Sure looks like your vid card has a problem.

All the temps are fine. Nothing is overheating. Its not the video card because this is the second card I've tryed.

You're might be right about the card but the fact that it's the second one that did this doesn't rule it out. Can you check it in another pc? If this was a replacement card did you completely uninstall the old drivers? What happens if you install the card but not the ATI drivers (use windows drivers)?

Have you tried running the computer out of the case to see if the problem still occurs?

Dont take this as offensive, but how is running it out of the case going to be any different then running it in the case? Its still the same settings and same hardware.

Running the computer outside of the case will eliminate any possiblity that a part of the case is shorting out something on the mother board or any other component.

So do I like just get a big thing of cardboard and run it all on it? Because I have a big sheet lol. Is it safe to have the motherboard on the ground?

It starts up. I'm getting really frustrated with this. I'm about to just go out and buy all new hardware and sell this rig to some idiot in town.

Meaning it runs out of the case and in the case. I'm using the computer right now. It only crashes randomly. I also noticed that when it crashes, everything in the tower is still running expect for the monitor that turns off and cant be turned back on.

I would take everything apart and put it back together making sure u plug everything in right and u haven't forgotten something. Your video card might be touching something and causing it to short out. Your mobo might be shorting out. make sure u put the right screws in everything. too long of screws would cuase a short. Usually though if u have a short it won't even start up but thats the only thing i can think of.

FIRST try hooking up another monitor. make sure connections from your video card are in the right spot and plugged in right.

I had the same problem a few days ago. I have a 6800gt, and I had my monitor plugged into the VGA output. So it came with a VGA to DVI adapter, and I tried that. It worked. Also, the video card didn't snap at the clamp in the AGP slot, so i pushed it in, and now it works in both outputs.......go figure?

hmm well the only other thing i can think of is take it apart and put it back together. Maybe u made a mistake installing the mobo or something. Sometimes people put to many screw holders for the mobo and u have a screw sitting behind the mobo u can't even see because it doesn't line up and u accidently put it in thinking it was the right one. I dont' think thats ur problem but thats a guess because ull have to take it aparts and recheck everything. Try switching ur monitor cable. Analog or whatever. Maybe a pin is bent. Im interested in finding out what it is though. Sounds frustrating

Does you motherboard have onboard video? Maybe you could try using that to see if the videocard is a problem.
