Oooopppps
Hello all,
I recently built a new computer and made a mistake when I partitioned the hard drive. I made two partitions, one smaller partition for my OS and then the rest of the hardrive for storage files etc. The problem is that I labeled the small partition C: (what was I thinking!) and the larger partition as D: Is there any way to change the partition labels now that it is all said and done? I really do not want to start over because the system is up and very stable. I did not discover my mistake until several months after the build was complete. Thanks for all of your help! |

You don't need Partition Magic (although you could use it), I'm assuming your usig Windows XP, go into administrative tools, computer management, action, all tasks, change drive letter and paths. You will also have to change programs to reflect the right drive and path in order for them to work correctly. Although if it was me I would leave things the way they are, I go by the motto "If it isn't broke, don't fix it".

If you "small" partition is large enough for the OS then that would be the more desirable setup. Use the larger D: partition for storage of files where they are safe and won't be destroyed in the event of a reformat.

You have it the right way. C is the default installation location for most programs. As long as you didn't make C too small, just leave it the way it is.

The problem is that all programs that you add to the hard drive are defaulted to drive C: It is just a pain to make sure when downloading things or adding programs to change the target drive letter to D: I have 1.63GB left on partition C:

Assuming that most of the stuff you download is in the my documents folder, you could just move the folder to the other partition.
