help with power button

ok so me and my friend were updateing my old compaq and we noticed that the new mother board doesn't have a place to put the cord for the power button and i was wondering if i should get a new case or if htere is another way to get a new power button

Have you checked the mobo manual for the front panel header? What kind of motherboard did you get?

i have a nforce3-A motherboard and the computer is mabe about 6-7 yrs old and designed for windows me

http://64.124.27.138/ecs/manual/mb/eng/k8/NFORCE3-A.pdf The front panel header is located right under the white IDE connector scroll down to page 12 on that PDF Have you upgraded your power supply you need a 4 pin (2X2) on the power supply or I am a little bit against this but purchase an adapter. In any case the power supply might not have enough wattage.

i already have a 430wat power supply i bought today so i think that is enoguh for what i am going to be doing on this computer and that fits and also it is the power button the front of the case

Super just checking. You should have a few connectors attached to wire leading to the front of the case flat 2 pin

aslo im jsut wondering if is should ask the company about this it says in the manual that it has a standard 24pin atx power conector but it realy is a 20 bit one

I see that in the manual too it may be a typo If you jump down to page 19 or 20 in that PDF you'll see the pinout diagram of your MOBO

and about the power switch could it be that it was custom made for the old motheboard so that could be why it isn't able to woek with the newer motherbaord

well the power button has 3 wires coming out of it into 1 connector and it cant be changed
