installation with no cd rom..................
I am trying to get an old laptop up for my son ...(he's 9) I wanted to reinstall windows so i erased the hard drive and then came to relize the laptop has no cd rom any suggestions on how i can install windows on it with out a cd rom?

My best idea is to use an external CD drive. otherwise you'd have to take out the hard drive and hook it up to something with a cd drive. I *think* you might be able to boot off a LAN, but that's probably going to be even more hassle

If you have access to a computer running a form of Windows Server, 2000 or 2003, you can setup RIS (Remote Installation Services). This can also be used to install apps, if I'm not mistaken thought I've never tried it. RIS is an excellent utility and I've done the exact same thing as you with a laptop before.
