I've been in the process of building myself a new computer for the past week. I finally installed the last component and when I tried to turn it on today, it didn't turn on.
Here are my components: -TASK TK-952TX-JB 520W PSU + FAN -Seagate 200GB HDD -FDD -ASUS P5LD2 Motherboard -Intel Pentium D 930 3.0Ghz Presler (65nm) -Galaxy nVidia Geforce 6800XT Video Card -BENQ DVD Writer Now, whenever I turn the power supply on, the little green standby-power button on the motherboard turns on but pressing the power switch doesn't do anything. Also, none of the fans work (including the PSU fan, CPU fan or case fans plugged into PSU) and I don't know if thats ok. I thought that if your fan plugs into PSU, it just starts when psu starts giving power to it? I am thinking that its either the processor (really hope not!) or the power supply. The PSU is not very common but people told me it works well and is cheap (but its kinda common here in New Zealand for some reason). The ATX 4-pin connector on the PSU is also connected to something else on the same cables (i.e. the 4-pin connector comes off an 8-pin connector) so I'm wondering if that could be the problem because it seems very strange. I also tried the "try to make it work outside of the case" method but the same thing happens - green light and nothing else. I would greatly appreciate any help.

The P5LD2 needs a bios update to run a Presler. 2 ways to do it - borrow a compatible processor or contact Asus.

I only bought the motherboard two weeks ago and when I opened it there was a note saying "The BIOS has been updated to v.0901 to support new CPU." Is this a good enough version?
BTW thanks for lightning fast reply. |

Just now, I was able to find the ASUS support site and the page that has P5LD2 bios updates and others. There my BIOS version 0901 is the latest one. Here is the link http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
So I don't think that that's the problem. Could it be the power supply and the strange ATX 4-pin connector? |

The board needs a 24 pin main ATX connector and a 4 pin auxiliary connector. The 8 pin sounds like an EPS connector for certain motherboards, mostly server boards.

The power supply does have a 20+4 pin connector which seems to work because of the green light that turns on (right?). So are you saying that the 4-pin connector on the power supply is actually for some other type of motherboard that uses both an 8-pin and a 4-pin? Or is the 4-pin for something else other than the motherboard (like a graphics card)?
Thanks. |

Did you make sure you have the connector for the power switch on the right pins on the mobo? It dosent take mutch to be off by a pin.
Edit: Also another thing, did you check that the switch on the back of the psu is switched to the side with the line? May seem like a no brainer, but we all make mistakes.

sounds like the power switch isn't connected right. The fans shouldnt start up unless you turn it on with the power switch.

I thought I would check the power supply with my old computer to see if it is the culprit. Luckily, I think it is! (and not my CPU
) My old comp wouldn't start up even though it only needs a 20-pin motherboard connection and some Optical Drive/HDD connections - so the 20-pin is probably the bad cable. I'll go replace the PSU tomorrow and hopefully I'll have a running computer soon enough. I'm definitely gonna get a more reliable brand for it this time round. Thanks for your help everyone! |
