Internal 3.5' drive/case question

I bought a Lian-Li media case(880B) I have my media computer up and running fine no problems.

There look like 2 3.5" storage slots in the case that I would love to slide my 2 hard drives into. I cant find parts that will attach to the hard drives to do this. Right now I have both hard drives in 5.25" slots and I only have 3 of those. My optical drive taking up the 3rd bay.

Any ideas? I bought the case through newegg and they have pictures of the case on their web site if anyone wants to see if they can help me out.

Thanks and great web site.

I've always just used the screw holes that are built into the side of the harddrive and the screws that come with the drive to mount standard harddrives in 3.5 inch slots, and If I have need to put a harddrive in a 5.25 inch slot, I have a set of rails that I attach to the harddrive to make it fit into a 5.25 slot..

3.5" bays

I have the rails mounted on my hard drives right now and in 2 of the 5.25" slots. The 3.5" slots look like it should have a rail that that mounts to the hard drive then it should slide in and lock down. no place to screw them in on this system. A service rep from Lian-li just emailed me back and said I might consider an external HDD set up. He had nothing. Right now I guess it's just extra stuff they put in there. Who knows. Maby I can take one out and see what I can do with it at a hardware store or something.

Usually you just take those rails off and mount the HD directly into a 3.5 slot using the same holes you used to mount the rails to the harddrive, but sounds like your 3.5 slots are different. Sounds like the are those very skinny rails the mount to the drive then just allow you to slide the drive in and out, and if so they sould have supplied them with the case.. Are you sure the rails are not in there already, and just look like they are not?? I've seen them came already in there and you have to take them out and mount them to the drive.

I'll have to check. There are 2 plastic peices that I could unscrew from the side of the cage. I think even if I can attach the plastic pieces to the hard drive it still won't be wide enough to attach back to the metal cage. I'm going to play around with it and see what I can come up with. I'll also take some pictures and post them just in case anyone else runs into this. Thanks.

The reviews I read on this case indicate that the hard drives mount in the internal bays with screws that come with the case.

I considered purchasing that case for my recent build but went with a different option. I am under the impression that the HDs are screwed in, but now that I look a little closer at the picture, the HD mounts don't seem to have the proper mounting holes.

Here's a link to a review and they mention how the HDs are mounted.

Here's another review and at the bottom of the page, there are a few more details about installing the HD.

Now I feel like an idiot.

Thanks for the post. I do have screws left over and now looking at the plastic rail I removed it makes sense. I'll be playing with it tonight to get it set up right. I wish the guy from Lian-Li had known about the screws. I'll forward him the info just so they have it. Thanks again for your help.

Yea, sometimes you just gota look a little deeper, my job presents me with challenges such as this quite often cause we don't get trained and familiarized with every product or new revision they come out with, so i do find myself staring into boxxs all the time and saying, OK, now I wonder how that thing comes out, and I usually figure it out, but sometimes the hard way.

Almost fixed.

Just thought I would let everyone know the scews worked just great. They came with the case and the hard drives slide right in the slots.

OK now I have to go get a new IDE cable as 18" and 24" ones do not provide enough length to hook up my master and slave hard drive. I will get a 36" one as the lengths between the 2 will be enough (I looked specs up online). I think I'm going to get some rounded cables instead of the flat ones as well.

So check your spacing and cable lengths.

Almost done. Can't wait. Next upgrade will be TV/Monitor. Just starting to check on these. Later.
