Need help on first build...

Hey all, I could use your thoughts and opinions on what I came up with for my first pc build. I meant this to be somewhat of a budget gamming PC, so try to base your comments around that mindframe..

Mobo: Abit AN8
CPU: AMD Athlon 3700+ Dan Deigo
RAM: 1GB (2x512) Kingston HyperX DDR 400 (PC3200)
Video Card: eVga 7800GT 256MB
Hard Drive: 100GB Maxtor Diamondmax SATA 1 (Got for a great price at Mirco Center)
DVD: NEC IDE Double Layer DVD Burner
Floppy: NEC (OEM)
Case: Aspire X-Navigator (Steel) w/ 500W Power Supply
OS: Windows XP Home

Any comments, or design alterations would help tremendesly.

Stay away from Aspire - go with an Antec Truepower 2.0, and buy a cheaper case without a power supply.

Enermax, OCZ, Seasonic.....and get an ASUS board or DFI Also i would get a 3200 or a 3500+ and OC it, so you can get 2GB of ram to go with that 7800GT

You may want to go with a larger hardrive. 100 Gigs is not much these days. You can also add on a larger one in the future.

AMD, we do not push overclocking here for first builds unless the member specifically asks about it. Please keep your overclocking enthusiasm in the overclocking forum. Thank you.

For the going with a better PSU, I was going to do that, but once I checked the specs, I realized that it's just fine for the system I'm building.

About the ASUS/DFI board's, 3200+/3500+ CPU, and te 2 gigs of RAM... I Went with the Abit A8N becaues it had the best features, and quality for the money I had to spend. I spent about 3 months researching the mobo, and I felt that it was a good choice. I went with the 3700+, because being my first build, I don't plan to OC for a little while until I better understand the finer points. I plan on getting a second gig of RAM once I start to OC.

A little later down the road I'm going to geta larger HD, but for now 100 gigs is more than I really need. I don't do to much video editing, music downloading, or graphic design.

The Aspire power supply may meet specs on paper, but we are saying that it may not supply stable and reliable power. It is a low end power supply, you take your chances.

False economy. You are putting the rest of your costly components at risk. I'd rather see you save money on the ram - value ram will work fine and Corsair is under 80 bucks right now.

That board should have pretty good integrated sound, you can hold off getting a card for now. Aspire PSUs are really poor. You should definitely squeeze a quality unit into the budget.

I agree, why risk all those pricey components with a poor PSU? Aspire is a proven bad brand, they put all that eye candy on thier units because they know that thier quality will not bring customers in. It's wise to go with a high quality unit:

I'll pull together some more cash for a better PSU then.. About going with the corsair VS line, the line I stated is just a step above, and I can get it at a sale price. That brings it down to about the same price as the corsair VS.
