Stupid noob question time!
I have searched the forums, seen a ton of builds and a good amount of links to places with decent guides. I have not seen a real good reason as to weather to choose intel over amd or vice versa. The most common answer I see is "AMD is preffered by gamers". Any reason why? i am most likely going to go with one of the builds off of the legeitreviews.com site. I figure it's a good idea to go off an exact list for my first build. I have about $1500 to spend with a monitor, speakers, keyboard and mouse on hand already. Going to use it for all sorts of things but must be a good gaming rig. So which one is recommended more and why? AMD or Intel?

Dunno if you're going to get a usable answer on this. It's mostly just personal preference. If you've seen the threads, you know both AMD and Intel users will have strong reasons for their choices.
If gaming is your focus, just be sure to get a good video card. You can browse around here and find parts lists for strong builds - priced and linked to vendors for you already. Good luck.

You can use AMD ot Intel and build a PC to fit your needs. Kov-Ice has stated the main factor for gaming, a good video card.

First off: There are no stupid questions.
Second: The bottom line is that if you build a decent rig with quality parts, it probably won’t matter and most people won’t even be able to tell if you used an AMD or Intel CPU.

AMD's do some things better, Intel does other things better. At the top end AMD does hold an advantage, but down in the mainstream price ranges, there really isn't much difference. Your price point is mainstream.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think after reading about each side here and on other sites, I am going to give AMD a shot. Of course now I have been reading about good video cards in SLI mode, so my $1,500 price point may be shot to hell! Thanks again.
