Having some problems with display

I'm having trouble with the display. Here are my specs:

ASUS A8N5X
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
SONATA II case
evga e-Geforce 6600GT
4x512mb Corsair ValueSelect DDR ram

I'm doing the "Having problems with a new build? Try this." trick and still having the same problems I was having when it was all in the case.

Basically, it all starts up, but the display is messed up. It's kind of like a flannel shirt, you know?

I don't have any other video cards to try out, so I don't know if that's the issue. I also don't have any other CPU to try out, so hopefully that's not a problem.

I can't put the video card in the computer that I'm using right now because the video card is PCI-Express.

If the display is messed up right off the bat on POST, the video card is probably defective. Do you have an old legacy PCI video card around to test with?

No, I don't. I'm thinking about buying one from Best Buy, trying it out to see if it's the graphics card, and then returning it tomorrow.

I tried connecting the monitor to the DVI output by using the DVI-to-VGA adapter and got the same thing. Just something I thought I would try.

See if you can borrow one from someone - most "geeks" have a few sitting in a bin somewhere.

Well, I picked up a cheap PCI-E video card from BB and it works. I'll have to RMA the 6600GT.

Well, I finally got a RMA number from ZipZoomFly. What's the best way to send merchandise back to these places? USPS? UPS? Fed Ex? It's just a video card, so it shouldn't cost too much. However, the RMA is only valid for 10 days, so it has to get there sooner than that.

Send it back Priority through the USPS. I just did one and it only cost about $5.00 and would get there in 2-3 days.

Send it by trackable means and insure it for retail value.
