New Build Powers on...and turns off after a few seconds

I'm another newbee to building a computer with a problem.

I only have the CPU, memory, and video card connected. it powers on, and I get 4 beeps, sounding sort of like an alarm of some kind. no error messages on the screen, just the BIOS, telling me that I have a NVIDIA 6600 graphic card. But after about 10 seconds or so, it it just turns off. Sometimes sooner.

The first time I turned it on, I got the blue Intel screen... and again when I reset the CMOS. But the power turned off on it's own after a few seconds, and when I restart it I only get that black BIOS screen.

I really have no clue what to do anymore... anybody have any ideas?!?

Does your motherboard manual give you details about the beeps or beep codes?

You are getting 4 beeps indicating a timer not operational:

* Check for foreign objects such as screws that may ground the motherboard and make sure that screws that hold the motherboard are not too tight.
* Swap the motherboard.
that's what it says on the intel website.

Are the heatsink retainer pins fully snapped down and locked? Are both the 24 pin ATX and 4 pin auxiliary power connectors plugged in?

By the way, the 551 processor is *NOT* on Intel's supported processor list for that motherboard.

yes, as far as I can tell everything is plugged in correctly. And since I assembled everything out of the case, I also know that the motherboard is not grounding on anything. So what's left... "swap the motherboard"?!?

I would contact Intel support and find out if the CPU nonsupport issue is applicable here.
