New Build, might have hit a roadblock
I am trying to build a new comp. and my hard drive, dvd writer and my dvd rom use ribbon cable to connect to the cpu, but there is only one socket on the motherboard. The motherboard, has SATA ports, but my hard drive is ATA. Do i need to get a newer hard drive with SATA compatibility or can i connect both my hard drive, dvd writer and my dvd rom together? Thanks for your help!

You can put both on the same cable, not recommended, but it will work. You dont really have a choice.
Will you post a link to the motherboard your using. It's kind of odd for a motherboard to have only one IDE channel. |

Don, the new generation of Intel boards only have one IDE controller now.
I'd recommend you get a SATA hard drive. You can only connect a total of 2 IDE (PATA) devices with what you have. You would need a controller card to add more. |
