Which hard drive to get?

Hello again ...

I am 99% done with my first build, missing only the hard drive. I know that I would like to get a SATA drive, but I'm not 100% sure on what brand to get.

I've used Maxtor products in the past and have had good luck with them, but I've been reading some unfavorable reviews. I'd like to keep the price at around or under $100.00.

Thanks for the input guys!

Jeff

Seagate,Maxtor or Western Didtal are all good drives. I prefer the Seagates and they have a 5 yr. warranty.

I'm with not important on this one. I prefer Seagate for the 5yr warranty too. Although I do have a couple of WD sata drives running in customer builds and they run fine too. Both are very quiet.

No issues that I've seen here. That's a good one.

um i dont think that 120 gigs of hard drive space is quite enough, tombstone. not in todays computer world. i would get something along the likes of this:

made by maxtor, which if he likes maxtor, which is a very good brand (ive used them in the past and never had a problem), he should have whatever he likes... nice solid capacity, more modern 16 MB cache and SATA interface for under 100 bucks... how could you go wrong with this?

i've got a SATA 160 gig seagate with 8mb cache, i've enjoyed it so far with no problems. All i would really say is i don't trust hitachi or samsung, i've just heard bad things about hitachi but other than that no real reason. I'm hesitant for a samsung because i had a samsung burner in my old computer and it was really weird and was not very reliable. A lot of the times it would disappear from my system and i'd have to reboot to get it back. This just doesn't inspire confidence for any type of samsung drive for me. I have a samsung LCD though and i LOVE IT. other than that i'd say any drive is fine.

This has 250GB storage, WD. One dollar less than rammax.

Between those two, I'd still go for the Maxtor, but both are good and both are a little faster than the Seagate.
