Problem with PSU power adapter
Hello!
I am in the middle of my first build (surprise!). After some trouble with grounding to the case, I managed to get power to the mobo. However, the 4 to 6 pin adapter for the CPU power does not work. I am running an MSI K8N Diamond Plus with an Athlon 64 2x 4400+. My power supply is a Thermaltake 420 watt PurePower. When I unplug the CPU power cord (JPWR2), the fans will spin on and power my VGA card. But obviously, no boot. When I plug it in, the fans on the mobo and PSU will not turn on. I am concerned because the CPU power slot is an 8 pin, though the 6 pin cord does fit fine. Could this just be a short in the wire, or do I need a new PSU or cord? Any suggestions welcome, thanks. My Specs: MSI K8N Diamond Plus Mobo Athlon 64 2x 4400+ 2 g. Adata DDR 400 dual channel 250 g. Seagate SATA HD Aopen DVD burner |

That's not even an ATX 2.0 power supply, much less SLI-certified. Get a proper power supply, and you aren't going to find one that's that cheap.
