motherboard, hard drive question

the motherboard im getting, here , only has one ATA100 slot, and i need to wire in a hard drive and a cd-rom drive....can i do both through this? The guide on this site says that it is not best to have the hard drive and cd-rom drive go through the same channel, but it seems with for this board, that that is all i can do.
thanks for the help

That link goes to a hard drive. Yes, one IDE channel can run two devices, such as a HD and optical drive. Gotta link to that mobo?

You're intending on using your old hard drive for now and upgrading later. If you are getting all new parts I'd take advantage of the 4 SATA channels you have on that board and run my hard drive throught it. Try this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148107 I've used this drive in two pc's and I have no complaints. Of all the pc's I've had I've never had a seagate fail, cant say that for the others.

With that motherboard, you can run two IDE devices. While it's always better to put opticals and hard drives on different channels, it will work.

OK, different motherboard hard drive question.

I'm getting a new MB ( eVGA 133-K8-NF41 nForce 4 Athlon 64(FX) Skt939 DDR ATX Motherboard w/Audio, Gigabit LAN, RAID/Serial) that supports both IDE and SATA. My principal new HD is a Seagate Barricuda 120 GB, 7200 SATA. Is it even possible to mount a second hard drive (my old one) which is IDE, not SATA. And to further complicate it, it's out of a Dell 8300 and I know Dell has a lot of proprietary crap so don't know if that makes it useless or not?

You can use both an IDE and a Serial ATA hard drive on that motherboard.

The Delll hard drive can be reused, not proprietary, usually a good brand like Seagate.
