Is there an extra wire hanging out of the connector? Also, is it not starting at all? if you plug in power and connect a network cable between a hub/switch/router and the motherboad, do you see any lights on the network jack?

I think the missing pin is normal...it's probably a ground wire that isn't necessary. I've seen other 24 pin connectors with the missing pin.
What are the complete system specs for this computer? List the parts by brand and model including the power supply. Cricket

My PSU (comes with Antec SONATA II case) is missing a pin, too. It doesn't seem to matter.

The missing pin is normal. Go here and do the "out of case" check.

Do you have the 4 pin square connector plugged in by the cpu?
Do you have the cpu fan plugged in to the correct connector on the mobo? Is your memory listed on the Qualified Vendor list for that mobo? If you have mulitple sticks of memory, are you trying one stick at a time? |

yes i have the cpu fan plugged into the board's cpu fan 1 pins. there are only 3 brands on the qualified vendor list so i'm guessing that's not correct ... (buffalo, legends, avant technology) i only got 1 stick of 512 ram pc3200(and it's in dimm slot 0) and i tried using the screwdriver to short the pw switch but it doesn't seem to work .. also i can't totally remove the heatsink/fan because it seems i pushed the pins in too tight ... now only 3 of them are able to come out and the last one doesn't. i still could look at the cpu and it doesn't seem burnt the heatsink/fan is original from intel and uses a thermal pad, so i didn't use thermal paste. Assuming you're attempting the startup with the mobo out of the case, connect a case speaker to the speaker connections on the front panel connector. Remove the memory module and short the two power pins. You should get beep codes indicating memory system failure. If no beeps, I'd suspect a bad mobo. If you do get beeps, try a different memory stick.

i shorted the two red ones shown on the mobo diagram ... and it does look like ur diagram ... well assuming the light is on does that mean the board is still ok ?!
not only does it not boot the cpu fans don't even turn on ... just the mobo light .. |

ok i got it to work ...
i knew it was something wrong w/ the psu .. so i went out to buy a 20-24 pin adapter and tried my old 250watt psu ... and bang it works ... i guess the missing pin does make a different .. maybe only on this board cuz it's made by intel ... anywayz i got it to boot up hooked everything up hd dvd video card and it won't load into windows setup .. says it's detecting hardware configuration in dos and then freezes ... i'm guess cuz the psu isn't big enough ?! btw in the bios it said the cpu was running 65C .. is that normal for that type of cpu ?! i've only done athlon xps and celeron ds those i got running at around 50-55C.... Fulton,
"so i went out to buy a 20-24 pin adapter and tried my old 250watt psu ... and bang it works ... " 250 watt PSU is underpowerd for that system and even more so because of that adapter. Most people run into problems with using it. Look in this thread and pick out a good brand PSU in the 400w range, which will give you some headroom http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

sorry i'm a cheapo but the "new" power supply that had 23 pins .. was a maxpower compusa brand power supply it was going for $29.99 w/ $20 rebate
i've got the cheap isn't good message from glc before .. just thought compusa wouldn't make that kind of thing ... anywayz the 250watt power supply is a bestec ... and the adapter does have all 24 pins. can't believe a $4 adapter works better than that $10 power supply.... i will be looking for a better psu from a better brand but how do i know it has all 24 pins ?! from a previous post some antec psu don't even have all 24pins ?!?!? knowing that the 631 p4 is a 65nm size die isn't it suppose to run cooler than my old athlon xps and celeron ds ?!?! Your problem here is not the missing pin, it's that you got a terrible-quality power supply that was probably dead to begin with. I'd get a 400 watt or higher PSU from the first tier in this list:

Interesting question... I'd probably stay away from Raidmax, but that's just me. I'd also get a PSU with dual +12V rails. I'm kind of surprised this is priced so low, but it is from a reputable brand (ePower) and is 400 W with dual 12V rails:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817101009 Right now it's $25 plus $7 shipping -- excellent deal in my book. EDIT: on second thought, it doesn't have a 6-pin PCI-E graphics connector. This PSU does, though: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104953 A bit more expensive though. Last edited by thefultonhow; 02-21-2006 at 10:47 PM. |

The 631 processor is not supported on that motherboard, by the way.

the 631 is working pretty good on that board i've done two fresh installs of windows w/ the cpu/board and no problems yet.
if it's not supported what's going to happen ?!??!?! will it cause heating problems ?! cuz last nite when i did a second install cpu heat was around 59C! i think i should get another heatsink/fan also is it safe to run 3 or more computers on one surge protector ?! i've got 2 pcs and i'm afraid of running more than that ... |

Check the heatsink-retention pins -- a lot of people have trouble getting them in all the way, and if they're not in properly heat can be an issue.
If I were you I wouldn't put three computers on one surge protector unless you were running them all on one monitor... |
