I'm built a new computer. now when i turn it on, it boot up, then shuts it self down. Follow the build outside the case, only have the power supply, CPU cooling fan, one ddr ram and video card hook up. still shut it self down. took the video card off and it still shuts it self down.

Can you post your system specs? Are you sure you have the heatsink attached to the CPU properly?

I think i found maybe two problems, first is the heat sink, notice no thermal gel on the heat sink, there is on the CPU. the second maybe the ram. i have a 775 socket mother board, with an Gigabyte 8I915PL-G Socket 775 Motherboard and Intel P4 506 2.66Ghz 533Fsb Socket 775 with a Masscool 8W0141B Socket 775 CPU Cooling Fan 3.6GHz Premium 256MB PC2100 DDR 266MHz the case power supply is 400 watts.

What brand is the PSU? When you say that there is no thermal compound on the heat sink but there is on the CPU, what do you mean?

Power Up Digital 2528 Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case with Fan Controller, Front USB & Audio Ports and 400-Watt 24-Pin Power Supply. when i removed the heat sink to check the cpu, there was no thermal compound on the heat sink, like the heat sink in not tounching the thermal compound

The heatsink probably isn't contacting the CPU properly, leading to overheating and shutdown. Make sure you follow the proper procedure for installing the heatsink. I've never installed a Socket 775 heatsink myself, but I have heard that they can be difficult. I found some instructions here.

Well that fix the problem, it still running well past the the time it shut it self down, i removed the heat sink and rotated until i felt it touch the thermal compound. Now need to put it back in the case and hook every thin back up, and see where the next problem is. thanks
