With that kind of budget, you can really make a great gaming rig.

Do you have a preference towards AMD or Intel? Both perform very well, it just makes it easier for us to spec out a machine.

If you are going for gaming, have you considered SLI, using two video cards for more performance?

I'm pretty sure this is your fifth hypothetical build thread, Daneth (that is, IF you're really not KingDaneth, and if you are it's your seventh) -- why should we believe this one is for real if the last four weren't?

Well, for gaming, I'd recommend an AMD, but I'd probably wait a little bit until the Socket M2 comes out.

If you can't wait, I'd recommend the FX-60 Dual Core 2.6 AMD processor, which could probably be overclocked to 2.8 anyways. Then, 2GB of OCZ RAM, Gold Edition, whatever case (Lian Li has some awesome ones), a SeaSonic 600W PS, I personally like the Asus A8N-SLI motherboard, whatever DVD/RW drives, lightscribe might be cool. Graphics cards? Have to do more research... I like Nvidia's 7800 GTX, 512 MB edition, but those are pricey...

You'd have to buy 2 150GB Raptors, Raid them (I'm thinking 0). If 300 GB ain't enough, buy another 250GB. X-FI Creative Sound Card, mid-model should do fine. Do you have a monitor already?
