New build problems
I installed everything, when I hit the switch, the rear and front fans and my cpu fan start turning, and a green led is on near the jumpers for the front panel (the power switch jumpers). Any suggestions? The power led does not turn on, but if I put it on backwards it does. I'm really freaking out here, this system cost me a bundle. I should've asked an expert to do it for me...
I have a: Pentium D 920 Asus P5WD2 Premium Corsair TWIN2X1024-5400C4 Club3D X1600 XT WD 250 GB SATA II Sonata II (450W) Last edited by Gilberreke; 02-20-2006 at 09:12 PM. |

Welcome to PCMechanic.
First thing to try is this: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 to eliminate the possibility of a short. Be sure to remove the motherboard from the case completely. Also, LEDs power on when ever the jumper is on correctly, so its not "backwards", its on as it should be.

The thing is, with the LED, all the other connectors have the side with the arrow on it to the same side, except for the LED, that leads me to believe it's on backwards.
I read that thread, but the problem is that the sonata II is so tight for the mobo to fit that I'm really afraid of getting it out again, after all the sweating when fitting it in... I think I'll just go and pop it in at the local comp store and let them rebuild it... I was so happy that it shipped in 2 days and now I'll have to wait to use it anyway, darn it! |

That board requires bios 0606 or newer to run a 920 processor. Yours may not have shipped with one that new. Contact Asus.

Any way to upgrade bios myself? I suppose I could run another processor, upgrade bios and then rebuild using the 920...

You can certainly do that if you have another socket 775 processor available. The update is easy, doing it with a floppy disk is best.
