Ok here is my second restarting problem
First, it was my dvd playback. Now its my new external cd rw drive. I just got it and installed it with all the drivers. It plays cds just fine but when i try to open the file on a cd or insert a blank cd rom into the drive my computer restarts and i get the blue screen of death all the time. The drive works fine in my other pc.
I cant exactly see what it says on the blue screen but i read something that had the word _Pan in it. I didnt see anything with drivers. Thanks for your help

Does it reboot after the BSOD? Is that why you can't read it? If so, turn off the Auto Restart after System Failure feature in System Properties, Startup and Recovery area of the Advanced tab. Then post the next BSOD so we can help diagnose the problem.

Ok this is what it says when my computer restarts. Funny though because it restarts when i try to browse the new drive when i insert a cd. Also i checked my ram and no errors.
TOP BAD_POOL_HEADER AT THE BOTTOM IT SAYS .....STOP 0X00000019 (0X00000020, 0X86E918A0, 0X86E918F8, 0X1A0B0001) Also, after i try to restart by pressing the resatart button on my pc, when it restarts, i get scrabled color on my pc and i have to keep restarting untill it goes away. The whole screen fills up with colors and thats all u see in the bios. |

Couple of questions. You mention in your first post that you installed all the drivers for the new external cd-rw. I'm not aware of the need for any drivers. What did you install? Also, did you install any burning software with that cd-rw? If so, which one and which version.

I did not install any burning software program because i already had nero on my pc. But the external cd rw did need driver and they were installed.

Is your Nero fully updated? There have been several updates to correct problems with SP2. If you are fully updated, I'd uninstall the external drive and see if that's what is causing the problem. Did you ever have this issue before the external was installed?

Ya im fully updated. I already had this issue before. It was the cause of two video codec conflicting with each other because i had installed too many. Thats what used to cause my video problems. And nero is fully updated. Im stumped
Any other ideas?

Have you ever run Memtest86+? I've seen too many weird things of late with Kingston memory. Be worth the effort just to eliminate that as a possibility.

Do i run memtest in windows or when the computer starts. Im guessing in the bios because windows xp uses memory when ur in windows so it wourld be dumkb checking for memopry errors in windows. But how do i get it to run. Also, where can i get it?
