Front Panel Audio Header - Cheap PC Show Rig

Hey guys!

I've been working on my daughters PC that was purchased from a PC show a couple of years ago. They neglected to hook up her front audio ports, which she now needs for cyber school.

I took at look at the MB, which is a PC Chips M825, and found the front audio header. The pin designation is as follows:

1 - MIC
2 - GND
3 - MIC-P
4 - VCC
5 - AUD_FPOUT_R
6 - AUD_RFT-R
7 - NC
8 - KEY
9 - AUD_FPOUT_L
10 - AUD_RFT_L

The wires for the front panel that were provided with the case are as follows:

(2) Grounds
(1) MIC
(1) R-OUT
(1) L-OUT
(1) R-RET
(1) L-RET

I've matched up what I could, leaving (1) of the ground wires disconnected and pins 3,4, and 8 w/o connections. The headphones work fine, but the MIC doesn't. Would this be due to the second ground? If so, where should it go?

This wouldn't be a big deal, but I just found out that she crawls under the PC desk when she wants to change from headset to speakers. I know I could use a 1/8" "Y" cable from Radio Shack, but where would the fun be w/o trying to troubleshoot.

Thanks again guys!!

Did you try the MIC from the case in both 1 - MIC and 3 - MIC-P ?

Thanks for the input.

This is what I've done since the time of my first post.

I had the front panel wire marked "MIC" on pin one - microphone didn't funcion.

I put the second ground wire on pin 3 identified as "MIC-P" - microphone and sound didn't work.

I removed the second ground and moved the wire marked "MIC" from pin 1 to pin 3, the one identified as "MIC-P" - sound was back, but no microphone.

The only pins I haven't tired are "VCC" and "KEY" ...

Any other thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Problem solved ... it helps if you start counting pins from the correct "pin one".

Oh well ... at least it was easy!

Have a great evening!
