Please Help a Virgin build his own...

as the title says... i am a virgin when it comes to building a pc. i have posted my problem on a different thread but the moderator told me to make a new one so here is goes...

my one and only problem with building a pc is compatabilty. i have read a lot of build your own pc guides online and all of them are very easy to understand which i assumed i can build one. so i started scouting for hardwares. i scouted first for a video card (i am building a gaming pc) and i found a Radeon X1900 XTX Video Card, PCI Express, 512MB GDDR3 which i THINK i know is really really good. with this video card in mind, my next hardware was a MoBo. just then i realized that not all MoBo have compatabilty with a PCI Express video card... so I searched and found the ASUS P5WD2 Premium which says on the website that it is compatible with a PCI Express card. next i searched for a processor... this is where i got confused... it says on the website that my motherboard is compatible with an Intel LGA775 Pentium 4 CPU... i researched on it and found a site where it says that there is a Prescott and a Gallatin. here goes my questions... what are they? are they the same? which one can i use? and plus... what are chipsets? please be in-depth... btw... here is the link of the MoBo i had my eye on... http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...93&modelmenu=1
and the byopc guide i read: http://www.buildyourown.org.uk (is this really reliable? need 2nd opinion. ty)
and here is the website that i found that got me confused with the processors: http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...-platform.html

ps. can you please help me with choosing the hardware for this MoBo. compatability-wise. sound card, ram, hdd, ide, cpu, psu, fdd, the whole nine yards... thank you guys in advance.

Most motherboards nowadays are compatible with PCI-express cards, as AGP is becoming a thing of the past. That graphics card costs quite alot of $$$ and is total overkill right now.
Chipsets are a collection of integrated circuits that form the set needed to make an electronic device such as a motherboard.
More later . . .
