Can I test new built PC w/o OS?
Hey again.
I'm putting together a budget rig for a friend of a friend. He doesn't want an OS installed on it from my end. Is there a way to test the components w/o having the OS installed? I seem to remember this being done when I purchased a PC from a PC show some years back. Thanks again guys for all the info! Jeff |

If the PC boots correctly, and you can access the BIOS, chances are things have been installed fine. You can check the system temperatures here as a starting point.
I'd download the Ultimate Boot CD. It has a lot of utilities on it that can fully test the memory, and hard drives for errors, which should give you a good indication of whether or not an OS install will encounter any problems. You could also download a bootable Linux CD (such as Knoppix) to get an overall indication of whether things are working ok. FK
