New Build NEW PROBLEMS !!
the sob story
In the past 4 months I have gone through 3 systems just trying to play quake 4. First was a 3.0/1mb/800 p4 with a 9800. something was wrong and I could not pin point the problem tested everything with new and different hardware no go 30 fps in source also tried custon cfg's. Second was a amd 3700 2.2/1m/2000ht's with just a onboard x300 ECS rs482-m and it was running fine intill I noticed the cpu temps were off by 20c. According to the site the new bios fixed that problem and half way through the flash It froze " not in windows" Rebooted and no visual. I was about to buy just a new bios chip but I decided to go with SLI and got Abit kn8 SLI Heres my specs Abit kn8 SLI AMD athlon64 3700+ san d core 6800gs EVGA 2x512mb Kingston HyperX Duel Channel ddr400 37gb sata raptor Logisys 480w 24pin psu "not sli ready" Ive purchased just about everything on new egg and I can say the ram , psu, hard drive , and cpu are 100% in working order. I just ordered the board and card recently and once I got everything together I get it to boot, everything powers up, all the board lights turn on but I just get no visual. Ive took it apart put it back together , triple checked my connections , tried both pcie slots , tried a old pci video card and still no visual =/. Id like to try a few more things but I cant think of anything else to do. Id also like to know if there was a way to find out if its the new board . the new video card or both ???????? I do have to say though I ordered this yesterday from newegg and got it today only paid for 3 day ups to !! Last edited by Kurtis; 03-03-2006 at 12:23 AM. |

Had no visual on mine a time or two. sounds to me like the board might be damaged or you did get a bad vid card. You should be able to take both into a pc shop and get them tested releatively cheap. The other thing i am thinking of is if your vid card has a fan onboard, does the fan come on when the pc is turned on? I know obvious question but no power = no visual. That can be a problem with mail order parts. You never know how the company that handles it treats it. Sorry i cant give you more tech info but get the parts tested then go from there.

Follow the steps in this thread, for an out of case build with minimum components.
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 Have you also remembered to connect the additional 4-pin 12v power connector to the motherboard? It's needed on most boards in addition to the main 24-pin connector. FK EDIT: Is this your power supply? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170012 If so, that's of horrible quality. You can't buy a quality unit for $15. I'd seriously consider replacing that whether it's the source of your problem or not. Apologies if this isn't your PSU, but it's the only 480w Logisys I can find on Newegg

ya unfortunatly thats it ! ive owned it for a year now and have ran 3 pc's with it. I have rma'd the board. I called abit and they said its either my cpu or the board since im getting no beep. There is a light on the board indicating that im getting good power. When I get another card for sli I do plan on getting a Antec true power which is sli certified.

You might want to get that power supply NOW. Something took out your board and/or the CPU, and that's the most likely suspect. I wouldn't even trust a $15 power supply to power a cheap build with onboard video.

lol I must have alot of faith then. ive monitered my systems underload and with no load and voltage is as steady as a 2x4. I honestly think the board came doa and ive already sent it back for another one. Ive been reading the reviews for my abit kn8 on newegg and about 15-18% of the people that got these got doa's. Of couse the ones that worked people left exelent reviews.
