Would just like to check this setup for compatibility.
Hi,
I was planning to build an Intel based system, but have decided to change over to AMD. Ive picked the parts i wish to get, i was just wondering if it would be possible to tell me if these parts are compatible etc:- -AMD (Venice) Athlon 64 3500+ (ADA3500DAA4BW) OEM Skt 939 -Asus A8N-VM S939 NVC51G/MCP51G Matx - Vga Sound Lan USB2 Fsb1000 Sata (MoBo) -Gigabyte (GH-PDU21-SC) G-Power (fan) I have everything else set, these are the only parts i needed to alter to accomodate the AMD. Also, what would be a good graphics card for this setup, for around the $400 mark? Thanks in advance. |

Change that motherboard to the A8N5X, or the A8N-E. That's got a Via chipset, which isn't up to the standards of the Nforce4 chipset, and on-board video - which you won't be needing if you go for a graphics card.
If you get the retail version of that processor, it comes with a heatsink and fan, and a warrenty. This is more than adequate, unless you want to verclock the processor. The Nvidia 7800GTX: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130248 ...is $439. It's a top notch card that will play any game around at high visual quality. The next logical step down is the 7800GT, at around $100 less. ATI cards are also an option, but i'm not familiar with product line. FK

No, that's not a Via chipset - it's a micro ATX board with a Nvidia 6150 chipset and onboard video. If you NEED a micro ATX, that's the board to get. Otherwise, get the A8N5X.
Make sure you have a proper power supply for that rig, no matter which motherboard you get. |

Thanks for the input!
Im getting a decent power supply for it, should be fine. One more small question (a very stupid one), will it be fine to hook up a SATA hard drive to the A8N5X motherboard? Im just not sure if it can, and dont want to get the wrong hard drive type. Cheers. |
