Need Help With Upgraded Rig!!

well im not exactly sure where to put this, but its related to comp building. awhile ago i had problems of comp freezing all the time, it ended up being the graphic card.

well i got a new problem (i jus keep getting them lol)

hopefully i can finish this

anyhow my comp resets, randomly, whether theres programs running or not. it can sit on the desktop and just reset.

i have replaced the power supply, graphic card, ram, removed the sound card. i dont have any spare mobos but i might get one if thats the problem, i really dont want to replace my cpu.

the current specs is
ANTEC 550W PS, ASUS A7v600-X Mobo, AMD XP 2500 1.4ghz, 2x 512mb corsair XMS, cdrw drive, 2 hard drives, a WD 80gb and some 40gb which is currently dissconnected, a BFG Geforce 6200 256mb Graphic card

so the question is, do i need a new mobo? its socket A so its pretty cheap... but i need to know if i need to. i removed an audigy 2 Z5 (or s i cant tell lol) because that was the last thing before it started doing the crazy 5 in a row resets. now it still resets but far less.

I plan to upgrade in like 4-5 months but until then i have a 100 dollar budget

Have you checked for a loose cpu fan/heatsink and/or dust buildup in the case?

Out of stock.

This should be pretty decent, although not that cheap:

It's a big board, so you need a pretty roomy case or the optical drives may have clearance issues with capacitors on the board.

Chaintech boards are just average - nothing special - but they aren't junk like ECS.

lol anyhow i went to the place and... they didn't have a single socket A board...
so yea im not really surprised, after all its old technology. im seeing if maybe it was the graphic card that was flipping out and that i might just get a new graphic card and see if that does anything. no more funny noises though so maybe it was that. thanks for the help. safe mode, besides funny beeps ran fine.

would a power supply create such problems as random resets?

thats all its been doing, usually when i have mutiple tasks on but sometimes it'll be just sitting on the desktop not doing anything and bam! lol

every once in awhile my games would exit out on its own. but i think that was the sound issue since my media player would close out too. lol

i have currently an antec 550W psu, but i dont know, maybe this is just a fualty power supply, i got it off a p4 (i think it was) board... older one since it had a 6200 graphic card on it.

Yes, random restarts can occur if the power supply is faulty. But random restarts can also be caused by faulty RAM, video card, NIC, sound card, motherboard or software conflicts.

Did you disable the Automatically restart on errors option yet? System Properties> Advanced tab> Startup and Recovery> System failure box> uncheck the Automatically restart check box.

Do you have another compatible power supply you can swap in to test with?

alright im doing the scan, perhaps its the ram but it ran fine, it was after i swapped my stock psu with this power supply, so i think ill trade back, i ended up putting back my fx5200 and removed my soundcard and system restored it to a point before i had all this stuff. it still keeps randomly resetting, so i hope its the power supply cuz im going to go back to my stock one, it never had resets.

ok so i was runnin the scan but... it resetted. ok it didn't but in the end i had t oreset, i unchecked the reset thing and the blue screen popped up. it had something to do with ram and i couldnt figure it out, something to do with shadow caching or something. anyhow im going to swap out ram... man this is nice ram but oh well lol. next thing i have question is what is the default admin password? i cant repair windows because it says i need admintrator password but my main account (the only one besides guest) is blank no password, well i just added one and test it out. oh im doing this since it said that i may need to reinstall my drivers and stuff hte new hardware i installed, the only thing i installed was ram so i dont know what im suppose to do. moving slots wont do anything will it? theres 3 slots so i put them in the first three, the ones right next to the cpu

so i cant find anything on the Administrator password, where do i look for it to change it? i nvr touched this account and it wont show up on the user accounts in control panel so do i reach it through safe mode?

I would suggest using 1 stick of RAM at a time until you get your problem solved.
