Do I have to do anything when upgrading Mobo
I'm upgrading from a Socket A motherboard with Athalon XP 1800+ to a 939 motherboard with an athalon 64 3500+, do I need to make any preparations on the motherboard to prevent problems. I heard you have to flash new mobos so that windows doesn't get BSOD errors. I changed a mobo once on windows 2000 and had to re-install it, but now I have xp and have installed a different motherboard and didn't get any errors, but that was also a socket A motherboard. I 'm not sure about Socket A to 939.

You may have to do a Repair install of XP - you might run into driver conflicts on the new board (which is probably why you needed to re-install 2000 before). Otherwise you are likely looking at re-activating XP (you may have to give M$ a quick call to have them activate it, as the internet activation may not work). You shouldn't have to do anything with the hardware.

Cool just put it in yesterday and like you said had to re-activate it. Was annoying because I couldn't get a ID Code unless I had been connected to the internet, it just wouldn't show up. Then during the automated message where I had to repeat a bajillion numbers I messed up and had to give it to a customer service rep.
But man those athalon 64s are heavy. |
