New Build with Software Load Issue

Hey guys, I know this appears to be a sowftware question, but its not. I have my new system up and running which consists of the following:
1. P4 Dual Core 830+
2. Gigabyte P4 Titan 865PE MB
3. Geil DDR2 1Gig stick(2nd Gig stick is bad and is already a replacement stick)
4. Nvidia 7800 GTX Vid Card
5. Sony DVD Burner
6. Samsung 160GB Sata HD
7. 500 watt Antec supply

Ok here is the issue. I boot up the system and all seems fine. My bios recognizes the drives, memory, vidoe card, and processor, but when I start the Windows XP install the DVD drive stops reading after a few seconds. I notice the Hard drive light does not flash as if it is receiving the data. I disconnected the hard drive to see what happens and was surprised to see the PC do the exact same thing. Can this be a problem with the hard drive? I have had multiple problems with this build and am getting to the point of quitting. I even sent the motherboard off thinking that it may be the problem.
I have it back and did get the system to post, so I do believe it did have an issue, but now this new problem arises. I do know that this MB has built-in RAID, but since I am using only one drive I turned the RAID off and set it for SATA use only. Is there anything else to try? I even tried all four of the MB SATA connections to see if that would help to no avail. Please help you seasoned veterans! Thanks alot!

What specific Gigabyte part number is that motherboard, I can't find it on Gigabytes site, but the 865 in the name you gave would seem to indicate that it uses an Intel 865 chipset, and is likely incompatible with the D830 processor.

Jay, believe it or not, but there ARE 865 boards out there that support 8xx *and* 9xx processors, but may require a bios update. It appears that this one is working - if the processor wasnt compatible it wouldn't even POST.

The Geil ram may be having compatibility issues.

Just a sec - an 865PE board with PCI-Express? I don't think they exist - and I'm pretty sure there's no AGP version of the 7800GTX........?

I knew there are a few 865 boards that will run a dual core.
I checked gigabytes cpu support list and they didn't show any there, just 915, 945 and nvidia chipsets. Could'nt find that specific board on the site and assumed that the P4 Titan 865PE was incorrect.
Didn't notice the AGP/PCI-Express thing.
Went back and looked at every 865 board they have, all AGP or integrated, none with PCI-express.
edit: His old post says Gigabyte GA-81945P-G, Gigabyte shows it as compatible with bios f5 or later.
