Asrock not seeing cd rom...

Hiya folks, Asrock kn8f4g, amd 3000 sempron 64bit, 512kddr ram, older(3yr?)
samsung dvd rom/cd rw combo. Windows `98 on an existing hard drive(ide),
Have just been helping a buddy with an upgrade, get as far as booting windows , detects new hardware, looks for drivers, (asrock disc which I have placed in cd rom) , the browser does not highlight the cdrom as being enabled? How do I enable the cdrom so I can load the drivers?
Have checked the ribbons, they are ok, have tried changing the jumpers from cs to master, (pri ide carries solely 40g hd with win98, sec ide carries cd rom ) am I doing something wrong in the BIOS, have swapped ribbons with others, seems that the system won`t see cdrom or enable cdrom....
Any help gratefully received, please feel free to mail me on
ja012f0522@blueyonder.co.uk
Thanks gents.

If the new Combo drive replaced an older drive, the jumpers should be placed the same as the previous drive. No drivers should need to be installed.

The IDE controllers have to install themselves before you will have CD-ROM access. Just skip the driver installs that the found new hardware wizard asks for a driver for, when it gets to the IDE controllers they will install themselves.

The best thing to do is boot it to safe mode and remove the ENUM key.

Thanks for the suggestions , will have another go later, but I feel my problem lies in the Bios settings somewhere. Without the cdrom drive enabled I can`t go anywhere, I get a message saying `found new hardware looking for drivers`, and it won`t let me out of a loop so I cannot use regedit or any other function, have to restart and play with Bios..
