I got a budget of about 1200 I wouldnt mind going a little higher but I had these parts picked out before, I don't know if these parts match my price area or if I could go to better parts? I just need opinions.

AMD64 3000+
ASUS A8V-E Deluxe w/WiFi, Gigabit Lan, Firewire, PCI-E, Audio.
1gig DDR RAM
200GB HD
16x DVD+/-RW LG

PCI-E 256MB GDDR3 Video Card (N6600)
PLAIN computer case

It just going to be a gaming computer and I think I have somone to build it n i'm gonna stick around while they do it so I can learn more myself.

Welcome to PCMechanic

Here is a list of parts that we often recommend for AMD builds.

Asus A8N5X Motherboard.
Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego CPU
1GB (2x512) Corsair Value Select DDR400
6600GT Video card.
Antec Sonata II case which comes with 450w PSU.
Seagate SATA Hard drives with 16MB cache. (Good catch fowozolo)

ALaron...why not a 16MB cache HD?? I am building a new system as well but was going to try the 16MB over the 8 MB.

to the OP: You can easily upgrade to the parts Alaron suggested for under $1000. I have most of those pieces except 2G of Ram and 6800GS for under $900. Hope this helps.

Dont forget the operating system. Xp home OEM runs about $90.
oops, didn't see it on the worksheet the first time.
That Sonata case/psu is a good combination. If you get some other brand of case, the power supply might not be any good, be sure to check back before you order stuff.
