Build Problems

Need some advice. Building a computer for my brother who was on a very limited budget. Using a Gigabyte K7 board with a brand new Sempron 2600+ processor. Using compatible ram I know works and a new ATI 9550 HIS card. Following the established board method i've hooked the main components outside of the case and shorted the PWR. The fan and lights on the vid card operate. The fan on the CPU heatsink spins. I'm getting some lights on the mobo, but alas no display. I've done many builds and I'm confident I've installed everything correctly. I'm thinking its a bad mobo.

Is a Sempron compatible with that board? You need to check Gigabyte's compatibility charts.

Agree with glc, that Gigabyte K7 looks a little suspicious with a Sempron.

I checked the compatibility way before I bought the processor. Tests were ok. It turned out to be the Motherboard like I thought. The processor, memory, and vid card worked fine in a older foxconn board I borrowed from my father in law. I will have to find another board to go with this processor.

Try one of these - it's a decent board and even has good onboard video.

I saw that board when I was looking around. Not to thrilled that it doesn't come with a backplate.

The Epox NForce board is back in stock - not as cheap but an excellent board.

Good pick. Looks like a very good board. I ordered one. Not exactly happy about the $80.00 price but it comes with some high quality cables and supports dual channel. This will work great for a backup/storage computer.
