I've seen wired optical mice that *do* turn off with computers, but more often than not, they don't. The light should reduce in intensity, and at any rate, the LED will most likely outlive your mouse.
The 10mb/s thing is normal. I believe it's because a current is still maintained through your motherboard for wake-on-lan events. FK

It depends on the motherboard...with the computer off but not unplugged from electrical power, ATX motherboards still get a small trickle of power from the power supply. Some motherboards will isolate this power to just the startup circuit, some will let the power go wherever and your optical mouse will remain powered.

That's pretty strange. Have you tried checking the mouse on another computer?

As Cricket has said, I think it depends on the motherboard. My Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI keeps a wired optical mouse powered when the system is off, but an old ASUS CUSI-M motherboard doesn't.
I very much doubt your A8N5X is defective. FK |

If those 2 items bother you that much, turn the power source off after you shut down the computer.
