Do you have a dollar figure for a budget? AMD or Intel?

That's a good budget to work with. Do you have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers from an old computer that you can use, or do you need to buy everything?

I could easily get you parts to build a really nice gaming machine for under $1000. You've just gotta let us know what type of parts you're looking for. Examples, as 'not important' said, AMD or Intel? Do you want a window in the case or not, or the entire case clear? nVidia or ATi? High end sound card or not? etc.

Just a list of parts -

ASUS A8N-E
AMD 4400+ X2
eVGA 7900GTX
2 GB (2 x 1GB) Cosair Value Select DDR400
Creative X-Fi sound card
WD SE16 16MB cache hard drive (starts at 250GB and up)
Antec TP-II 550
Win XP Home OEM
LITE-ON DVD-RW

Needs a case...you can pick that one out since you have to look at it (good brands are Antec, Thermaltake, Lian Li, but any brand would be OK - remember, you get what you pay for)

Not sure of the prices, but you can look them up at newegg.com (if in the US).

Does this include monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers? or just the computer?

What are you talking about? THe video card either goes in a AGP or PCIx16 slot depending on the mobo. YOu have high speed internet or dial up because you dont' need a modem unless u have dial up. Mobo comes with build in LAN or local area network if you prefer. What are u talking about video card and modem though? Be more specific and explain in detail what u r asking. YOu need to do a lot of research before you start picking out parts. Your gonna waste 2000 bucks if you dont'. GO to ur local book store. Get a book that explains how to build a comp. You can look for books like MAXIMUM PC BUILDING A DREAM MACHINE or EXTREMETECH BUILDING A GAMING PC extreme tech has a book but im not sure of teh title. Dont' worry about ur parts until you get a grasp of what ur doing. If not ur wondering in the dark with sunglasses. Look at extremetech.com they have some cool stuff on DIY stuff that might be helpful

Thumbs up

And what do you mean by "i dont need those junk stuff just as yet" because if ur refering to the monitor, keyboard etc then the comp is not workable without those things. You also got to remember that folks on here offer you help and suggestions to what you need and you should be more appriciative. Especially then to follow up with a coment about the video card and modem slots. I think you are a bit all over the place. Settle down consider the opinions offered.

You install the video card on the motherboard.

Consider doing some research into how to build PCs... it isn't that tought, but it isn't easy either.

Here is the PCMech guide http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/

You could also consider the CD, Digital Book, or Printed book, which are all great sources of information along with the forums.

For a more indepth guide with images and newer materails

You'll need a motherboard with a PCI-Express x16 slot (it would be at the top). I doubt your old computer has one. Do you have any of the parts right now? If you do, let us know what you have and what you need yet.

Dont' buy anything yet! YOu will regret it. Wait until you have ur final build list. You will change it so much its not even funny. Make sure you know what does what and what you need in order to make it do what you want. Play games will require good video card cpu and ram. Also a good psu for VGA. But you need to do research first. Trust me.

Messiah34 is absolutely right! I had a list of components made up and I was literally minutes away from ordering when I read some new information. I ended up changing everything on my list except the power supply... and I'm really happy I did.

I don't know about everyone else, but the research was actually a pretty fun part of the "build" process. Take your time and consider different options before you spend your money - or else you'll make your purchase and *then* hear about something that would have given you a better system.

When I changed my system components around, I ended up actually saving some money and I had a better system as a result (at least based on the 3DMark scores I've gotten compared to systems that are running my original list of components).

If you're considering a gaming system, my advice is to research and choose a graphics card (or cards) first and then build the system around it (them). At least that method worked great for me.

Btw, I bought Age of Empires III last weekend and I really like it!
