Boom New Build - primary IDE master not recognized

It's my first build. I boot it up and it says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device, or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key." I try to open up the cd-rom, which is connected correctly and set to master, but it doesnt open. I go to the BIOS and the Primary IDE Master isn't detected. I select CDROM as the Type, reboot, and it still doesnt work. Someone help out a rookie!

Make sure the ribbon is connected correctly pin 1 on cable to pin one on cdrom, are you using a 40 wire or 80 wire connector?
Is the power plug fully seated on cdrom?
Is cdrom sole device on ide 2?
