Another Computer Problemo...

My friend recently built a new computer. (2 weeks ago) When it was built and the OS was installed, the computer ran great for a week and half. Now, he is getting these problems where the screen would shut off on him, but the computer would remain on. Not only that, but also when he would restart, the computer would turn on, but it wouldn't make that beep noise, and just remain on. Do you know what the problem could be?

That Rosewill power supply is suspect quality. I wouldn't be surprised to see if that power supply is dieing on you... I would replace it with something higher quality before you do anything else. Antec, FSP (Forton Source), and Sparkle all have cheaper, yet quality power supplies.

I would think something like this would work. It's a 20+4 pin connector, so it'll hook up to your 20 pin mobo, and you'll also have 24 pin capabilities should you ever upgrade the mobo... Even if that doesn't solve the problems your friend shouldn't have any problems with a cheap power supply.

I had the same turn on the computer and no beeps problem, and I think it had to do with an over-worked power supply...

Before we totally blow off the Rosewill - does the motherboard have a 20 or a 24 pin main ATX connector? If it's 24 pin, does the Rosewill have a 24 pin or a 20+4 pin plug? Using a 20 pin with an adapter on a 24 pin board is not acceptable.

You can troubleshoot an overloading problem by uninstalling the video card and using the onboard video.

Thanks for replying. Anyways, the motherboard is a 20 pin and the PSU is 20 pin as well. I haven't had time to personally look at it, but he also stated that one time he turned on his computer, a blue screen came up that stated something could be wrong with the HDD or the motherboard. However, after that message it was working fine after a full day (10 hours) of his game, WoW, and he didn't recieve a single problem. Another thing, I think the HDD was an OEM, even though its nothing serious, I just want to take that in to consideration. The next time I see it, I'll try taking out the GPU and let the onboard run.

Please leave your comments, and I will get back to you ASAP.
