Please review my build
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am planning on building a new computer. I do a lot of video editing...not many games but want a computer that can basically do it all with ease. Here are my specs. Do you see any problems? Case: Coolermaster Praetorian 730 Mid Tower Case PSU: Thermatalke: TWV500W Series 500watt Power Supply w/active PFC MotherBoard: ASUS A8N-SLI Premium nForce4 SLI CPU: AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Memory: Cosair TWINX2048-3200C2 2 GB Kit DDR400 XMS3200 Memory HD #1 (Boot Drive): Western Digital Raptor WD740GD 74 GB Serial ATA 10,000 w 8MB Buffer and Serial ATA HD #2: (Data Drive): Western Digital W Caviar RE2 WD4000YR 400 GB ATA Serial 7200 RPM w/16MB buffer Optical #1: HP DVD740i 16x Internal DL DVD Writer with LightScribe Optical #2: Sony CRX320EBK DVD 16X+CD-RW Sound: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Sound Card Video: ATI All-in-Wonder X1900 PCI Express 256MB DDR3 CPU cooling: Zalman CNPS7000B-ASCU LED CPU Cooler My major concern is using an ATI AIO video card with an SLI MB...probably will work but would there be a better choice? I need the capability to capture/import video from VHS tapes as well as digital feeds. Thank you for your review mdvenrick |

I just have a few suggestions. First, switch out the power supply for an Antec 550: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937 If you don't need SLI, you can switch the board to the Asus A8N5X. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131569 Lastly, you can save some cash going with Corsair Value Select RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145579

Thank you for your advice. I am wondering why you recommend the antec power supply over the Thermaltake? Reputation or added capabilities? Thanks |

Antec is a much better brand than thermaltake, higher quality and more reliable.
You don't need the aftermarket cpu fan/heeatsink cooler, the stock unit is more than sufficient, the aftermarket ones are often no better or even worse than the stock units and using it will void the warranty on the processor. The onboard sound on that motherboard is pretty good, you should try it before you buy a card. You will need an OS, the OEM version of Windows XP with SP2 will be fine unless you need some specific feature of XP Pro, about $90 at newegg. Check the QVL at Asus or use corsairs configurator to make sure you order compatible RAM.
